Course Overview:

Join the I Luv Suwanee Journalism Production Class to explore the exciting world of community journalism. This unique course invites students to delve into the local stories of Suwanee, from uncovering hidden gems to reporting on significant events, and crafting them into engaging TV-style news reports. Aimed at budding journalists and storytellers, this class is a doorway to understanding the nuances of reporting, storytelling, and broadcasting.

 

Course Details:

• Frequency: Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:45 PM - 6 PM | Tuesday and Thursday, 4:45 PM - 6 PM 

• Location: 3425 Martin Farm Rd, Suwanee, GA 30024*

• Duration: Monthly rolling program

• Cost: $300 per month

 

Program Structure:

1. News Story Identification:

   • Students will learn how to find and select newsworthy stories within the Suwanee community.

   • Focus on understanding what makes a story appealing to local audiences.

2. Reporting Skills:

   • Hands-on training in interviewing techniques, fact-checking, and research.

   • Emphasis on ethical journalism and credible reporting.

3. Broadcast Production:

   • Learn how to script, film, and produce news segments.

   • Training in speaking and presenting news in a TV-report format.

4. Use of AI Tools:

   • Incorporating AI tools for research, fact-checking, and enhancing production quality.

   • Understanding the role of technology in modern journalism.

5. Editing and Post-Production:

   • Skills in editing video footage to create a polished news report.

   • Techniques for adding graphics, sound, and other multimedia elements.

 

Final Product:

• Each student will produce a complete news report on a local story.

• The final reports will be featured on I Luv Suwanee's channels, reaching an audience of over 500K viewers.

Equipment Requirements

• Smartphone:

  • A current-generation smartphone (ideally an iPhone for consistency in quality and ease of file sharing) with a high-quality camera for filming. Ensure your device has sufficient storage space for video files and the capability to download necessary apps.

• CapCut Pro App:

  • Subscription to CapCut Pro for advanced video editing features. This app will be used extensively for post-production editing, adding effects, and finalizing your projects.

• AI Tools Subscription:

  • Access to the Free Version of Chat GPT for scriptwriting assistance, content planning, and other pre-production needs. Details on specific tools and subscription plans will be provided during class.
